Cardboard creation

Fresh with the glow of our recent foray into designing with cardboard and having found W.H Skinner, a company who can make our cardboard dreams come true, we embarked on our next card creation.

We were challenged to come up with an eco, cheap, simple light for London’s first proper night market StockMKT and created a simple card shade for a T5 batten.

Light Collective

The inspiration came from the ingenuity of stand holders and how they create shades for their lighting in places like Goa and Thailand, with the shade design comprising a coloured interior, louvers and a cut-out logo. The battens were provided by Aether Lighting and together we were set for the big night and the debut of the market and the shades.

However, it was not to run that smoothly and an accident at London Bridge meant our shades were not delivered in time for the event. Although disappointed, we were not beaten and we worked together with Aether Lighting to pull together a solution in the few remaining hours before the market opened.

We adapted the boxes that the battens originally arrived in to create some impromptu glare control – they had luckily been refused by the bin men and were still in the skip outside! Finally we were able to get it together with the help of some sellotape, staples, boxes, sticky labels, red gaffa (and red wine).

Watch this space for the next incarnation of the StockMKT in February where our eco shades will finally be hanging in their rightful place.
