Sleepy summer months
August is traditionally a quiet time of year for the lighting industry with the whole of Europe virtually shut down. Accordingly, we have had very little to blog about.
Not to worry though, because the autumn will see us jetting off to a variety of places that will give us plenty to talk about: A Copenhagen guerrilla event; a trip to the Turrell exhibition outside Stockholm; work in Kuwait; the Social Light Movement Workshop in Liege; and the Professional Lighting Designers Convention in Madrid.
Another thing we’re looking forward to will take place on 16 September. We have organised an evening in conjunction with Flos to screen the premier of Ian Cheneys film: The City Dark. The film has won a host of awards at independent US film festivals and is subtitled ‘a search for night in a planet that never sleeps’.
After director Ian Cheney moves to New York and realises he cannot see the stars, he sets off on a trip around America to ask the question ‘what do we lose, when we lose the night sky?’ encountering a selection of philosophers, astronomers, cancer researchers and ecologists. The film documents the journey and explores the complexities of the human relationship with the stars.
You can watch the trailer here or if you ask nicely, we might even invite you along. We have a couple of spaces left.
Enjoy the rest of the summer…
