The Social Light Movement

Posted by Light Collective

Light Collective love a good campaign and our newest venture along with co-founders, Isabelle Corten, Erik Olsson and Joran Linder has taken off rapidly without us even trying to promote it. Inspired by the work of Olsson/Linder and Corten, we have long been interested in encouraging good lighting design in areas away from the city centre.

Pushed along by the ‘architectural lighting is dead’ quote from Roger Narboni, we thought it was time to start giving the idea of better lighting design for areas such as social housing a voice. Along with the three other designers that have been working in this arena for years, we founded a ‘movement’ at Frankfurt. Our first ‘move’ in the movement was to set up a Facebook page and create a logo. The intention being to create an online free space where information about projects and ideas could be shared among those that are interested.

To our surprise, the movement has 192 members as of today and the Facebook page is full of people wearing the SLM T-shirt and spreading the word. We are currently discussing collaboration with LUCI and a potential sponsor of the group in order to further our message.

The Social Light Movement has been founded in order to create a network for lighting designers and other interested parties to collaborate on the issue of improving lighting for people: particularly those who are unlikely to have access to good quality illumination within their environment.
