DeltaLight introduces Metronome
Last week over 500 guests converged on Antwerp, Belgium for the official launch of Metronome, DeltaLight’s new pendant lamp designed by Belgian fashion designer Tim Van Steenbergen.
Launched in the impressive surroundings of a former monastery church, Metronome, a special edition of the Husk, was unveiled. After almost 25 years of in-house design, the collaboration is a first for DeltaLight.
Unveiling both the pendent and Van Steenbergen’s 2012 summer collection at the event, the synergy between the design of the product and his new summer collection was clear to see with five XXL versions of the pendant lamp illuminating the clothing.
Van Steenbergen said the experience was a very fulfilling one and put his understanding of good lighting down to his work at fashion shows and theatre. “Thanks to my shows and my theatre work I understand the importance of lighting. Light can make or break something.”
According to DeltaLight, what started as a revamp of the Husk became a totally new creation. Van Steenbergen started working on the original lighting object. Covering it with fabric he was inspired to create an object that plays with light and shadow.
Commenting on this new approach to the design process, Paul Ameloot, general manager and designer of DeltaLight said: “We wanted to explore new shapes colours and materials within our own sector, but we also wanted to find common ground with other trendsetting sectors. Brainstorming with creative people from various sectors, cultures and worlds is extremely educational and refreshing. Fashion was top of our list. With the multitude of fashion talent in Belgium, we first and foremost looked close to home.”
The pendant lamp designed by Tim Van Steenbergen comes in a range of different versions:
- Metronome XXL is tailor-made and two smaller variations are also available.
- Metronome comes in four aluminium versions: white, black, red and a combination with cork.
- The pendant will be available in 2012.
