The 'City Pulse' heart in Times Square

The ‘City Pulse’ heart in Times Square

Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) architects from Denmark has created a “City Pulse” heart sculpture to celebrate Valentine’s Day in New York’s Times Square.

A single person can activate the beating heart, which is made of 400 transparent acrylic tubes fitted with LEDs, by touching a panel set up next to the installation. The more people take each other by the hand to form a human chain, the faster the heart pulsates to finally climax in a brightly burning light. Zumtobel has sponsored the LED lighting system that illuminated the work of art.

This is the fourth time in a row that the Times Square Alliance marketing consortium in New York has implemented the Valentine’s Day Heart. This year it was officially inaugurated on 6 February. On 14 February, many couples will use Times Square as a backdrop for renewing their marriage vows.
