Britain from space

Astronaut Paolo Nespoli took advantage of some clear skies over Britain to take this photo.

Orbiting 230 miles above earth aboard the International Space Station, the astronaut’s picture shows the sprawling metropolises of London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle and Dublin. The orange hue shows that sodium is still dominant in street lighting.
