Tropicana brings the sun to London

Tropicana and public art group Greyworld have unveiled a glowing sun art installation in Trafalgar Square today.

A giant glowing orb, weighing over two tonnes, was raised over Trafalgar Square this morning at 06.51 as part of Tropicana’s “Brighter Mornings” campaign.

Emitting more than four million lumens of light, the artificial sun can be seen from space. The globe is 30,000 times the size of a football, taking six months to create, and is only on display for just one day.

Extending the capital’s day by a further three hours, it will “set” at 19.33, to then be dismantled and removed. Tropicana spokesman Pete Charles says: “Sunlight is something many of us crave mid-winter. We hope that this stunning art installation will both amaze and enthuse those who see it.”
