A new joint venture between Philips and Russian LED luminaire manufacturer Optogan has been created with a focus on LED road lighting in Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus.

The venture, owned 51 per cent by Philips and 49 per cent by Optogan, is designed to combine Philips’ latest LED road lighting technology with Optogan’s expertise and knowledge of local markets.

Commenting on the venture, Arjan de Jongste, CEO Philips Russia and CIS, said: “It will unlock new potential for us to bring innovative lighting solutions to Russia that save energy, reduce maintenance costs and increase road safety.”

The Russian road lighting market is expected to double in size to €100m (£82m) by 2015.

Uptake of LEDs in this sector is expected to reach 50 per cent.
