RCF Group sells SGM Lighting

Peter Johansen

SGM has been sold to a consortium headed by Peter Johansen

RCF Group’s lighting division SGM, has been sold to a consortium headed by Martin Professional-founder Peter Johansen.

Renamed SGM A/S, the company will be based in Aabyhøj, Denmark and will focus on developing LED solutions in the entertainment and architectural sectors.

Johansen joined SGM as R&D director in late 2010 following more than a decade-long break from the industry and the buyout allows him to head his own company once again. “I am delighted to be back as an independent operator, as I have always worked better this way,” he says. “The reason I’m so enthusiastic is that having had the opportunity to take over an existing brand name, and been given a free hand to develop it, we remain committed to establishing SGM as one of the absolute leading brands within the industry,” he said.

In spite of the sale, RCF will continue to represent SGM in Italy while its sister company, dBTechnologies will distribute its products in Germany.

Johansen, who only agreed to join SGM on the understanding that he could bring his old R&D team, will once again be joined by the same R&D team at SGM A/S, as well as by the existing SGM sales force.

In the new set-up, R&D, admin and after-sales will be based in Denmark, with manufacturing plants in Italy, Thailand and China, and warehousing in Holland.
