Church of St Stephen Walbrook

The Church of St Stephen Walbrook was designed by Sir Christopher Wren, boasts a controversial Henry Moore altar and was the birthplace of the Samaritans in 1953. When Wren’s original balance of natural light in the dome was threatened by three neighbouring high-rise developments, lighting by Light Perceptions and controls from Lutron came to the rescue. The scheme incorporates cold cathode sources and chandeliers to compensate for the lack of daylight. There was also a need for flexible accent lighting to service activities around the altar. Lutron’s Grafik 4000 control system is programmed to create pre-programmed lighting scenes and moods.
