Emil Schumacher Museum, Hagen

Lindemann Architects designed the three-storey Emil Schumacher Museum in Hagen as a concrete structure within a glass cube. A focal point is the elongated staircase that lies between the glass envelope and the concrete façade, providing access to the building across all levels.

At night, the concrete surfaces are evenly illumated in blue light (a colour Emil Schumacher treasured). Luminaires are positioned between the glass roof and a tension-mounted membrane to provide illumination at night, while a suntracking lamella system blocks out direct sunlight during the day to protect the artwork from radiation. Each room is lit internally by luminous ceilings or light fields.
