World Cup stadium, Durban

Osram has supplied lighting solutions for each football stadium used for World Cup matches in South Africa. All ten stadium venues are equipped with high intensity discharge lamps, T5 and T8 fluorescent tubes and LEDs. But the focus is undoubtedly the 350m LED-illuminated arc over the Durban stadium. Known as The Arch, it has over 12,000 Golden Dragon Plus LEDs and spans the entire length of the stadium. ‘LED Beams’, developed in collaboration with local manufacturer BEKA, are two metre-long luminaires used to light The Arch. Designed specifically for this project, they are fully weather-proof and can be used flexibly within an application.
